Hope Builders

In 2006, Taller San Jose launched a new endeavor to expand employment opportunities to its alumni.  Hope Builders, Inc. is a licensed general contracting venture employing graduates of Taller San Jose in an effort to further refine their skill, enhancing their ability for a productive future. Hope Builders, Inc. focuses on building affordable housing units through collaborations with local cities and serves the capital improvement needs of the Orange County non-profit community.

CURRENT PROJECTS

PHOENIX HOUSE

Through a public-private collaboration, Hope Builders, Inc. is improving the existing infrastructure and facilities of the Phoenix House, a residential substance abuse program for youth aged 13-18 located in Santa Ana, CA. The project will likely be complete by early 2010.

LOGAN INFILL

Through a collaboration of Taller San Jose, the City of Santa Ana and Orange County Community Housing Corp., Hope Builders will provide affordable housing for first-time homebuyers in the Logan neighborhood in Santa Ana.

The project will serve to revitalize one of Orange County’s oldest neighborhoods. With a history that spans nearly 120 years, the Logan area was home to some of the region’s early farm-working families, many of whom still live there.

In September 2008, Hope Builders Inc. held its groundbreaking ceremony, and construction soon followed. Once complete (expected by late 2009), the homes will be sold via a lottery system to local residents at a subsidized cost.
