About Hope Builders

In 2007, Taller San Jose launched Hope Builders, Inc., a licensed general contracting venture and social enterprise that expands Taller San Jose’s existing training services and creates jobs for unemployed youth. Hope Builders partners with local cities to build affordable housing and serves the capital improvement needs of the Orange County nonprofit community.

How Hope Builders Supports the Community

Hope Builders, Inc. employs graduates of Taller San Jose’s construction training program and supplies affordable housing for Orange County cities. it incorporates green products and practices into the construction of affordable housing units, enabling residents to save money on their energy bills. By targeting an under-served niche and focusing on smaller projects on which larger developers cannot competitively bid, Hope Builders creates an on-going stream of self-generated revenue to support the parent non-profit, Taller San Jose.

Affiliates

Hope Builders is a subsidiary of Taller San Jose, an innovative Orange County program that walks troubled young people out of poverty. Founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange in 1995, this values-driven program provides undereducated and unskilled young adults who have gotten off track in life with the education, job training and rehabilitation necessary to find employment at a living wage. In Spanish, a “taller” is a workshop, a place to build and repair things. “San Jose” is Spanish for St. Joseph, the patron of workers. At Taller San Jose, troubled young people work to both turn their lives around and develop job skills for a brighter future.
